Wayne Academy moves Friday game up to 4:30 p.m.

October 16, 2025

Friday's varsity football game between Wayne Academy and Columbia Academy has been moved up to 4:30 p.m.

Originally scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m., the game has been moved up to 4:30 p.m. for safety reasons. While there have been no credible threats made against teams playing in Wayne County Friday, officials for both schools made the decision to move the games up after shootings across the state last Friday night — including one in Heidelburg that killed three people.

Officials with the Waynesboro Police Department and Wayne County Sheriff's Department met Friday afternoon to discuss heightened security measures at both the W.A. and Wayne County High School football games scheduled for Friday. Fans can expect an increased presence of law enforcement at both games.

Again, no credible threats have been made against either school. The measures are being put in place for safety reasons and to ensure everyone has a good experience Friday. All fans are asked to not post things on social media that may agitate what has become a sensitive topic for football fans throughout the state.

Senior Night festivities at W.A. will begin at 4 p.m., followed by the game against the Cougars and Jaguars at 4:30 p.m.
