War Eagles clinch; Jaguars advance
Wayne County High School clinched a spot in the Class 5A playoffs while the Jaguars of Wayne Academy advanced to the second round of the 4A postseason with both teams getting big wins.
The War Eagles went on the road Friday night and brought back a 20-6 win over long-time rival Laurel. The victory clinches no worse than a No. 4 seed for WCHS, and that could move up to a No. 3 or evenly a No. 2 based on tiebreakers if the War Eagles can beat Vancleave at home on Thursday, Nov. 7.
Meanwhile, at T.F. Giles Field, the Jaguars rolled past Amite School Center, 37-21, in a first-round playoff game. The Jaguars improved to 8-3 on the year and now travel north to Clarksdale to take on Lee Academy in a second-round game. Last year, these two teams met and it was the Jaguars who came away with a thrilling 58-54 win.
