A Celebration of Life Service for Reverend Lynn O. Mackey, Sr., 87, of

Laurel, will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024 from First Baptist

Church of Sharon, with Pastor Matt Olson officiating. Visitation will be

from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2024 from First Baptist Church of

Born on April 5, 1937 in Tiptonville, Tenn., he pastored churches for

more than 50 years in Alabama, Arizona, Florida and Mississippi. He

retired from the Wayne County Baptist Association as Director of

Missions in 2007.

He also proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He was a member of FBC Sharon, where he faithfully served as the

Associate Pastor of Senior Adults.

Pawpaw, as he was affectionately known by most, enjoyed traveling with

his family as the "wagon master," leading mission trips and being an

amateur HAM radio operator. If you were ever looking for him, you could

find him clowning around with his magic shows, tinkering under the hood

of a car or cooking up delicious meals in the kitchen. His favorite past

time was rocking the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He died on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at his residence in Laurel.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Norma L. Mackey; his five

children and their respective spouses, Tammy and Larry Howard, Lynda and

John Duvall, Deanna and Hal Gardner, Lynn "Butch" Mackey, Jr., and

Christopher and Rebecca Mackey; 16 grandchildren, 12

great-grandchildren, two sisters, a brother and several nieces and

Pallbearers will be Butch Mackey, Chris Mackey, Larry Howard, John

Duvall, Hal Gardner and Jonathan Strickler. Honorary pallbearers will

include FBC Sharon Deacons along with pastors, ministers and deacons

with whom he had the privilege to serve through the years.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to FBC Sharon Building Fund

and Gideon's International.
