MICHAEL J. "YOGI" MILSTEAD

Graveside services for Michael J. "Yogi" Mistead, 73, of Mobile, 
Ala., were conducted on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2026 from Powe Cemetery in 
Waynesboro County.

Born in Waynesboro on Thursday, Oct. 16, 1952 to the late Percy Roy 
Milstead, Jr., and Maxie Arnold Milstead, he worked as a Millwright in 
the construction industry.

He died on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2026 at SAAD Hospice in Mobile.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Kathy Powe Milstead of 
Mobile; his son and daughter-in-law, Taz and Mandy Milstead of 
Brookhaven; his daughter and son-in-law, Taylor Milstead and Brandon 
Fulkerson of Waynesboro; his brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Debbie 
Milstead of Mobile; his sister, Judye Milstead Rowell of Semmes, Ala.; 
and five grandchildren, Carson Cochran, Kace Fulkerson, Jace Fulkerson, 
Kahlen Milstead and Owen Milstead.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Percy Roy Milstead, Jr., and 
Maxie Arnold Milstead; and his sister, Dana Milstead Waller.

CHRIS NOWELL

Jan. 21, 1978-Aug. 27, 2026

Funeral services for Chris Nowell, 48, of Waynesboro, were conducted on 
Sunday, Sept. 6, 2026 from the Chapel of Freeman Funeral Home, with Rev. 
Ronald Nowell officiating.

Born on Jan. 21, 1978 in Laurel to Malcolm and Hazel Nowell, he was a 
proud, dedicated patriot who bravely served 18 years in the United 
States Army National Guard. He served three tours overseas, including 
Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.

He also served as a Police Officer for more than 10 years with both the 
Laurel and Waynesboro Police Departments. He was an Equipment Operator, 
a Contractor, a Superintendent, a Pipeliner and anything else anyone 
needed him to be. All he ever wanted to do was to be outside and to help 
people.

The most important things in his life were the people he loved. His 
fondest memories were of the many friendships made during his time and 
the moments spent with family. Chris loved to tell stories and, as he so 
often put it, "get into some trouble." He will be remembered for his 
fight, his spirit, his loyalty and, most importantly, his unending and 
unwavering love.

He died on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2026 in Yuma, Ariz., while doing what he 
loved — being outside and riding on his four-wheeler.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Rebecca Marie Nowell; his daughter, 
Haily Renae Nowell; his son, Hayden James Nowell; his two brothers and 
sisters-in-law, Joshua and Courtney Nowell and Ryan and Kristen Nowell; 
his parents, Malcolm and Hazel Nowell; his grandparents, Norman and Mary 
Nowell; and a countless collection of aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, 
nieces, extended family and friends, each of whom he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death and welcomed home by his little sister, Tonya 
Renae Nowell; his brother-in-law, Christopher Jackson Pinkerton; and his 
grandparents, Alvin and Myrtle Mills.
