RUSSELL ALVIN HENDRIX

A celebration of the life of Russell Alvin Hendrix, 92, of Fruitdale, 
Ala., will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026 from 
Chatom Baptist Church in Chatom, Ala.

A beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and esteemed member of 
his community, he died peacefully on June 1, 2026, at Washington County 
Nursing Home. Born on Dec. 10, 1933, in Escatawpa, Russell lived a life 
deeply rooted in the land and community he cherished.

Russell was the devoted husband of the late Anne Hendrix, whom he 
married on Oct. 3, 1952, in Meridian. Together, they created a family 
filled with love and warmth.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne; son, Russell David Hendrix; 
grandson, Jeremy Caleb Jones; sister, Nola Nowell and brother, Charles 
Hendrix.

Survivors include his daughters, Teresa Schmidt and her husband, Jerry 
and Donica Jones and her husband, Dewayne; sister, Nora Pierre and 
daughter-in-law, Sherri Hendrix.

Russell also was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 11 
great-grandchildren who brought immense joy and pride to his life. His 
family was his greatest treasure, and he took every opportunity to 
instill in them the values of hard work, integrity and love.

Russell graduated from Fruitdale High School in 1950. In 1958, he 
established his life's work on the same 200 acres of Fruitdale land he 
farmed for decades. He was a dedicated farmer and a pillar of the 
agricultural community.

His commitment to agriculture extended beyond his farm. He served on the 
Washington County Soil and Water Conservation Committee and became 
president of the Washington County Farmers Federation in 1965. Known as 
the oldest county president in the state, Russell's leadership and 
knowledge were invaluable to his peers.

An active member of Union Chapel Methodist Church in Fruitdale since 
1952, Russell's faith was an integral part of his life. He also served 
on the Washington County Hospital Board for 12 years, demonstrating his 
dedication to the well-being of his community.

His love for farming and gardening was more than a profession. It was a 
lifelong passion he nurtured with care and enthusiasm.

Russell Alvin Hendrix will be remembered for his unwavering dedication 
to his family, his community and the land he loved so dearly. His legacy 
will continue to inspire all who knew him, and his spirit will forever 
be cherished in the hearts of those he touched.
