UPDATE — One killed in Monday afternoon wreck

One person was killed and another injured after a wreck involving an 
18-wheeler and a passenger vehicle Monday afternoon.

Around 3 p.m. Monday, a passenger vehicle was attempting to cross 
Highway 45 onto Highway 145 when the vehicle was struck by an 
18-wheeler. The accident pushed the car and part of the truck into a 
wooded area.

The driver of the car, 17-year-old Alyssa Grant, suffered fatal injuries 
and was pronounced dead at the scene by Wayne County Deputy Coroner 
Blake Kelly.

The driver of the truck was also examined by medical personnel at the 
scene.

Highway 45 South was shut down to one lane as emergency crews directed 
traffic and worked the scene. Highway 145 from Old Highway 45 all the 
way to the intersection with Highway 45 was totally shut down to allow 
emergency personnel to work.

The accident is being investigated by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
