JOAN (MCRAE) KITTRELL
Nov. 9, 1932-June 19, 2025
Funeral services for Joan (McRae) Kittrell, 92, of Laurel, were
conducted on Saturday, June 21 from Pleasant Grove Methodist Church in
Waynesboro.
Interment followed at Pleasant Grove Methodist Cemetery.
Born in Waynesboro on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 1932 to the late Grace Dyess
and Arlander McRae, she completed school in Waynesboro and began her
banking career at First National Bank in Meridian. That bank happened to
be where she met her future husband while he was home on leave from the
Navy.
Jackson eventually became their home, and she worked for Deposit
Guaranty National Bank for many years at its main office. She loved
helping customers from all walks of life and working near the state
capitol. Her dedication to her customers won her accolades for superior
customer service throughout her career.
Laurel became home after retirement, and Joan loved living closer to her
siblings in Wayneboro and near her special granddaughter in Laurel. She
was an active member of Franklin Methodist Church and loved
fellowshipping with and cooking for her beloved church family. She would
gladly whip up a tray of stuffed eggs, one of her famous sausage loaves
or a complete meal if needed.
She died on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at Brookwood Villa Personal Care
Home in Waynesboro.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Ricky Cook of
Ellisville; her brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Joyce McRae of
Waynesboro; her sister, Janette Manning of Waynesboro; two grandchildren
and their respective spouses, Beth Brown and Daniel and Caitlynn Cook,
all of Laurel; four great-grandchildren, Austin Brown, Rylan Broome,
Dani Kaye Cook and Delilah Cook; her sister-in-law, Alma Pearl McRae of
