SANDRA VOLKING BURNETT
May 15, 1956-May 17, 2025
A memorial service for Sandra Volking, 69, of Prattville, Ala., will be
conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 30 from St. Michael & All Angels'
Episcopal Church, located at 5941 Main St. in Millbrook, Ala.
Born on May 15, 1956 in Phoenix, Ariz., to William and Annette Volking,
Jr., she was known as Sandy to family and friends, Mom to her children,
Nanny to her grandchildren and Great Nanny to her three
great-grandchildren. She was the eldest of nine siblings and her
residences included Quitman and Prattville.
She was married to her husband, David Burnett of Waynesboro. She had
three children — Chrissy (Mitchell) Kelly of Quitman, Ryan and Alyssa
Jackson of Marietta, Ga., and Tyler Jackson of Huntington Beach, Calif.
— as well as two bonus twin sons in Carlo and Angeloa (Elaina)
Kibanoff; three stepchildren, Brandy (Drew) Turner, Randi (Justin)
Stewart and Matt (Kimberly) Burnett; grandchildren Lawson and Rosie
Burnett; and great-grandchildren, Zander, Zayden and Zoie Kelly.
She is survived by her sisters, Lisa (Duane) Glenn of Pass Christian,
Mary (Kippy) Smith and brother Daniel Cano of Quitman, along with
numerous cherished nieces and nephews.
Sandy's auburn hair reflected the vibrant spirit within her and she
often humorously joked she would never go gray. She had a flair for fun
and loved to dress up for the Kentucky Derby or Mardi Gras, never
without her bedazzled fascinator and sequin gown.
A registered nurse until her retirement, she carried for countless
patients throughout her career — and countless more as neighbors and
friends. If medicine couldn't mend it, her cooking surely could. Her
legendary bacon potato chowder earned her two blue ribbons and captured
hearts every time it was served.
She had a remarkable talent for hosting, ensuring that every detail was
tailored to the occasion and making each social gathering unforgettable.
Her love reached beyond her family and career into her spiritual life. A
devoted member of St. Michael & All Angels' Episcopal Church, she was
known for her warm smile, inviting nature and tireless involvement. She
truly never met a stranger and gave the gift of friendship freely.
She died on Saturday, May 17, 2025 in Prattville. Family and friends
celebrate her life and a woman who will be remembered.
