Classes cancelled Tuesday and Wednesday for county's public schools
January 19, 2025
Sunday afternoon, Wayne County Superintendent of Education Tommy Branch said classes on Tuesday and Wednesday would be cancelled for all public schools in the county.
Branch made the decision after Governor Tate Reeves declared a State of Emergency for the entire state due to the coming winter weather that will bring bitter cold temperatures, snow and icy road conditions to Mississippi. Branch said the safety of students, teachers and staff was paramount in making the decision to not have school on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Schools are also closed on Monday for the Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday.
Branch urged everyone to be safe and to stay warm while also checking on elderly neighbors as the system moves through the area starting on Monday.
