Incumbent Tim Cochran defeated challenger Marvin Chapman in Tuesday
night's primary for the Democratic spot in the City of Waynesboro's Ward
1 general election.
Cochran brought in 129 votes to 59 for Chapman. That means Cochran now
advances to the June 3 general election where he will face Independent
candidates Willard "Buster" Crocker and Jamie Heathcock.
In the general election, all five aldermen positions — along with the
position of Mayor — will be on the ballot. Winners in that election
will take office on July 1.
Tuesday, Cochran garnered 116 votes on election day along with 13
absentee ballots. Chapman earned 53 Election Day votes and six absentee
votes.
Two other Democrats — Linda Gray in Ward 4 and Inetta Hundley in Ward
3 — did not draw an opponent in the primary and immediately advance to
the June 3 race.
