He accepted the call to preach at the age of 19 and started pastoring
shortly after. He pastored for 56 years before health issues causeed him
to retire and move in with his son in June of 2018. He knew he was
having some memory issues and said he did not want to say anything wrong
behind the sacred desk.

He never was what many could call a dynamic preacher, but he loved the
Lord, he loved the Word and he loved people He was always will to preach
to the smaller congregations, even if there was only one, because they
needed to hear the Gospel as much as the larger congregations. He loved
people and was loved by all who knew him. Anyone who knew him knew he
was a cut-up and liked to carry on; he just wanted to see you smile and
make you laugh.

He never required the finer things in life as he lived simply and humbly
in service to his Lord and in ministry to his many family members and
friends.

Until he was no longer able to drive, he kept the roads hot visiting
family, friends and church members. If you were in need and he knew
about it, he would always try to help if he had the means to do so.

He always said, "Don't have any part of my funeral on Wednesday or
Sunday. I don't want anyone to use my funeral as an excuse to miss
church."
