REV. MARSHALL DEAN WALTERS
Aug. 20, 1942-Jan. 7, 2025
Funeral services for Rev. Marshall Dean Walters, 82, were conducted on
Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2025 from Corinth Free Will Baptist Church, with Rev.
Tyrone Creel, Rev. Ronald Nowell, Rev. William Smith and Rev. Mark
Gillie officiating.
Interment followed at Corinth Cemetery in Wayne County.
Born on Aug. 20, 1942, he pastored several Free Will Baptist churches
over the years, including Bethel, Thompson Creek, County Line and
Lovewell. Hew as a longtime member of Corinth Free Will Baptist Church.
He accepted the call to preach at the age of 19 and started pastoring
shortly after. He pastored for 56 years before health issues causeed him
to retire and move in with his son in June of 2018. He knew he was
having some memory issues and said he did not want to say anything wrong
behind the sacred desk.
He never was what many could call a dynamic preacher, but he loved the
Lord, he loved the Word and he loved people He was always will to preach
to the smaller congregations, even if there was only one, because they
needed to hear the Gospel as much as the larger congregations. He loved
people and was loved by all who knew him. Anyone who knew him knew he
was a cut-up and liked to carry on; he just wanted to see you smile and
make you laugh.
He retired from Hood Industries in Beaumont, having worked there as a
Heavy Machine Operator for 40 years and through many changes in
ownership.
He never required the finer things in life as he lived simply and humbly
in service to his Lord and in ministry to his many family members and
friends.
Until he was no longer able to drive, he kept the roads hot visiting
family, friends and church members. If you were in need and he knew
about it, he would always try to help if he had the means to do so.
He always said, "Don't have any part of my funeral on Wednesday or
Sunday. I don't want anyone to use my funeral as an excuse to miss
church."
Marshall was always a true example of what it means to be a Christian, a
man of God, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He died on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Gary Marshall and Marcie
Walters; his granddaughter and her spouse, Kelsie and Aaron Sullivan ---
who brought years of love and joy to his life and many times of eating
bacon and playing Uncle Wiggly together; a sister and brother-in-law,
Gloria and Bill Smith of South Carolina; two brothers and
sisters-in-law, Billy and Sally Walters of West Virginia and Carl and
Sue Walters of Mississippi; two brothers-in-law, Charles and Virginia
Henderson and Frank Henderson; and his personal sitter of four years,
Deborah Nicholson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Paul and Elma Catherine
Wedgeworth Walters; his first wife, Joyce Conway Walters and his son,
Fred Marshall Walters, in 1969; his second wife, Nona Gray Henderson
Walters in 1981; a brother, James Daniel "J.D." Walters; and three

McAlister.
