Funeral services for Chester Fred Andrews, 82, of Buckatunna, will be at 
11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025 from the Chapel of Freeman Funeral 
Home, with Rev. Ray Odom officiating.
Interment will follow in Lewis Chapel Cemetery in Buckatunna.
Born in Wayne County on Friday, May 8, 1942 to Shelton Clancey Andrews 
and Rosa Belle Andrews, he was a member of Progress Assembly of God 
Church. He served for 24 years as the Beat 2 Supervisor for the Wayne 
County Board of Supervisors.
He died on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025 at his residence.
He is survived by his wife, Vermel Andrews; two sons, and 
daughters-in-law, Kevin and Michelle Andrews and John and Dorothy 
Andrews all of Buckatunna; his daughter and son-in-law, Kelli Andrews 
and Mike Jarrett of Buckatunna; 17 grandchildren and their respective 
spouses, Tuezday and John Doby, Jonathan and McKensey Platt, Brooke and 
Steven Scarbrough, Annabelle Andrews, Ches Andrews, Courtni and Lonnie 
Bingham, Natasha and Chad McCarty, Savannah and Bradley Rogers, Ethan 
and Kaitlyn Reynolds, Andrew Bowles, Luke Bowles, Jacob Bowles, Rivers 
Jarrett, Christian and Alex Jarrett, Madison and Ian Sentress, Jillian 
Jarrett and Carla Laneaux; 20 great-grandchildren and two 
great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirlene Andrews; his 
father, Shelton Clancey Andrews; his mother, Rosa Belle Andrews; three 
brothers and two sisters.

Born in Starkville on Friday, Feb. 27, 1970 to Patrick Alexander and 
Judy Alexander, he was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. He worked as 
an Electrician.
He died on Monday, Jan. 6, 2025 at his residence.
He is survived by his wife, Regina Alexander of Shubuta; his father, 
Patrick Alexander of Foley, Ala.; his mother, Judy Alexander of Foley; 
four daughters and three sons-in-law, Carina and Will Russell of 
Zachary, La., Jessie Alexander of Jayess, Kaylee and Chris Hill of 
Waynesboro and Brady and Caymon Ladd of Waynesboro; eight grandchildren, 
Maddie Russell, Owen Russell, Kazley Davis, Kyzar Davis, Keagan Hill, 
Carsyn Hill, Kaymeree Hill and Lillyann Ladd; his sister and 
brother-in-law, Marla and Joe Heiden of Foley; and several nieces and 
nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lilly Hill; his father-in-law, 
Tommy Brady; his paternal grandparents, Hubert and Dorothy Alexander; 
and his maternal grandparents, Hollis and Audrey Thames.
Pallbearers will be Duane Harvey, Will Russell, Joe Heiden, Eli Heiden, 
Austin Heiden and Zac Heiden. Honorary pallbearer will be Jacob Harvey.

Funeral services for Mack E. Taylor, 96, of Kenner, La., will be at 11 
a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025 from the Chapel of Freeman Funeral Home, 
with Rev. Mark Guy officiating. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. on 
Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025 from the Parlor of Freeman Funeral Home.
Following the funeral service, interment will take place at Eret 
Cemetery in Wayne County.
Born in State Line on Thursday, Dec. 13, 1928 to the late Jim and Mary 
E. "Lizzie" Taylor, he served in the United States Army and was a 
Veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He retired as an Aircraft 
Mechanic with Eastern Airlines.
He died on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2024 at East Jefferson General Hospital in 
Metairie, La.
He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Elgy Duane Taylor of 
Kenner and Edmund "Don" and Pat Taylor of Toxey, Ala.; his brother, 
James "Jimmy" Taylor of Oregon; six grandchildren, Jeffery Taylor, 
Katie LeBaron, Michael Taylor, Michelle Taylor, Wendy Taylor and Donna 
Williams; seven great-grandchildren, Carter, Grant, Reagan, Alyssa, 
Addy, Ethan and Everly; and great-granddaughter, Skye.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Inez Sullivan Taylor; his parents, 
Jim and Mary E. "Lizzie" Taylor; three brothers, Albert Taylor, 
Dewey Taylor and Edgar Ray Taylor; and three sisters, Flora Mae Lathan, 
Bobbie Jean Crager and Geneva Tyler.

FRANK ALLEN JOHNSTON
March 24, 1947-Dec. 31, 2024
Funeral services for Frank Allen Johnston, 77, of Waynesboro, were 
conducted on Monday, Jan. 6, 2025 from First Baptist Church of 
Waynesboro, with Dr. Steve Smith officiating.
Interment followed at Shubuta Cemetery in Clarke County.
Born in Waynesboro on Monday, March 24, 1947 to the late Margaret P. and 
Exo C. Johnston, he attended Waynesboro Central High School, where he 
lettered in football, basketball and baseball. Following graduation in 
1965, he attended the University of Southern Mississippi on a football 
scholarship, playing running back for Southern Miss from 1966-1969 while 
also earning his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the 
university in 1970.
He went to work after graduation as a lumber trader for North Pacific 
Lumber Company, subsequently Southern Mississippi Trading, LLC, back in 
Waynesboro. He retired from Southern Mississippi Trading as President 
and a member of its Board of Directors in 2016 after 45 years.
As a lifelong resident of Waynesboro, he participated in church and 
different community affairs. He was a Deacon at First Baptist Church of 
Waynesboro and served on various committees and in other capacities 
through the years. He was also a frequent volunteer at and served on the 
Board of Directors of Samaritan's Closet & Pantry.
During his leisure time, he enjoyed golf at the Waynesboro Country Club 
and hunting with friends.
He died on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2024 in Waynesboro.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Hope J. Johnston of 
Waynesboro; two sons and daughters-in-law, James Troy and Erin Johnston 
of Ridgeland and Ryan Casey and Jennifer Johnston of Vancleave; two 
grandchildren, Caroline Rose Johnston and Margaret Ann Johnston; and his 
nieces and nephews, Dana West Cooley, Judd Johnston, Rick Johnston, 
Cliff Johnston, Lora DePriest and Perk Johnston.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret P. and Exo C. 
Johnston; and two brothers, Don P. Johnston and Jerry Johnston.

Born in Laurel on Thursday, Aug. 4, 1955 to the late Boykin Turner and 
Hazel Bernice Allday, he worked as a Self-Employed Truck Driver.
He died on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2024 at Wayne General Hospital.
He is survived by is wife of 24 years, Dana Turner of State Line; three 
sons and two daughters-in-law, Chris and Nelda Turner of Chicora, Boykin 
and Kellie Turner of Leakesville and Cole Turner of State Line; a 
daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Heath Brewer of State Line; his 
stepson and his spouse, Andrew and Bree Payton of Las Vegas, Nev.; his 
stepdaughter, Tessa Walley of Clara; his sister and brother-in-law, 
Susie and Gator Timothy of State Line; nine grandchildren, Luke, Austin, 
Madison, Dustin, Damion, Landon, Brody, Kellby and Karlie; four 
step-grandchildren, Jadin, Kenzie, Addi and Noah; and a host of 
great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Boykin Turner; his mother, Hazel

Funeral services for Curtis James McFarland, 73, of Shubuta, were 
conducted on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025 from Green Hill Missionary Baptist 
Church, wit Pastor Lorenzo Johnson officiating.
Interment followed at Green Hill Church Cemetery in Shubuta.
Born on Nov. 13, 1951, he worked with Ingalls Shipyard and was a Logger 
by trade.
He died on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2024 at USA Health in Mobile, Ala.
He is survived by his wife, Veneitha Faye McFarland; three sons, Chris 
McFarland, Justin McFarland and Charlestte McFarland; a sister-in-law, 
Mamie McFarland; his stepchildren and their respective spouse, Kareem 
and Tonya Pickens, Raderick Pickens and Brittany Pickens; four brothers 
and three sisters-in-law, Theotis and Shirley, Fred and Kay, Chester and 
Prince and Glenda McFarland; a sister and brother-in-law, Jessie and 
Gary Knight; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by Lester and Mamie, Mary Ella Horn, Almetia 
Clark and a brother, Charles Lester McFarland.

SISter BERNIECE MILLS
June 25, 1938-Dec. 27, 2024
Funeral services for Sis. Berniece Mills, 86, of Clara, were conducted 
on Friday, Jan. 3, 2025 from Clara First Church of God, with Rev. Chris 
Cooper, Rev. Jim Koen and Dr. Steve Smith officiating.
Interment followed at White House Cemetery in Waynesboro.
Born in George County on Saturday, June 25, 1938 to the late Millard T. 
and Virgie Howell, she was a member of Clara First Church of God. She 
will always be remembers as supporting her husband's ministry for more 
than 63 years. She had many ministries of her own, including teaching 
Sunday School, Children's Church and chaperoning and actively 
participating in youth camps.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking and spending time with her family.
She died on Friday, Dec. 27, 2024 at Wayne General Hospital, surrounded 
by her loving family.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Sharry and Vince 
Muscat and Cecelia Mills, all of Clara; two sons and daughters-in-law, 
Freddie and Carla Mills and Marlon and Imogene Walley, all of Clara; 
four grandchildren and their respective spouses, Chris and Christina 
Muscat, Lakisha and Robert West, Brandi and Dustin Freeman and Brianna 
and Kaleb Smith; 11 great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Addison, Will, Hannah, 
Nick, Ryan, Xander, Sutton, Anna-Claire, Tanner and Adeline; four 
sisters and three brothers-in-law, Glenda Faye and C.G. Steede. Cindy 
Hodges, Becky and Ronnie Howell and Lisa and Mike Cochran, all of 
Lucedale; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. William R. Mills; her 
parents, Millard T. Virgie Kathleen Howell; her son, Chris Mills; a 
granddaughter, Jennifer Romijn; two brothers, Norman Cedrick Howell and 
Kenneth Howell; and a sister, Carolyn Davis.

Born in Waynesboro on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999 to Ryan Pitts and Tezzra 
Cook, he was a member of West Shady Grove Baptist Church. He worked as a 
Construction Worker.
He died on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2024 in Hattiesburg.
He is survived by his father and his wife, Ryan and Lakita Pitts of 
Waynesboro; his mother, Tezzra Cook of Buckatunna; two brothers and a 
sister-in-law, Kaleb Pitts and Braxton and Kali Pitts, all of 
Waynesboro; his sister and brother-in-law, Paige and Trey Beck of 
Waynesboro; his grandchildren, Ginger Pitts Cooksey and Dorothea 
Clements, both of Waynesboro, and Rodney Thames of Buckatunna; his aunts 
and uncles, Erik and Heather Cooksey, Dustin and Celeste Cooksey, Israle 
Thames, Casey Ainsworth and Kathy Pittman; two nephews, Tavaid Beck and

LARIS KAY BISHOP

Funeral services for Laris Kay Bishop, 77, of Laurel, were conducted on 
Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025 from Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, with Brother 
Scott Hilton and Brother Kent Miller officiating.
Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Born in Laurel on Oct. 9, 1947, she lived in Pinellas Park, Fla. through 
her high school years. After moving to Laurel, she continued her 
education at Jones College and the University of Southern Mississippi, 
where she earned her teaching degree.
She taught for 20 years in the Wayne County School District, which 
included 14 years teaching deaf children. She then taught for two years 
at the Ellisville State School Worshop in Bay Spring.
She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where she enjoyed 
working with the youth and children, singing in the choir and taking 
trips with the Senior Adults (NOAH). She moved to Laurelwood Community 
Living Center in January, 2020, where she was wonderfully happy.
She died on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2024.
She is survived by her daughters, Tallulah Fox and Chelsea and Rane 
Bishop; her former foster daughters, Sonya Welborn and Jones and Renee 
Byrd; her grandchildren, Daniel, Timmy and Audriana Windham, Lee and 
Logan Bishop and William and M'Kenzie Jones; a host of 
great-grandchildren; her special loving cousins and their respective 
spouses, Judy and Leroy Luke, Pam and Billy Roberts, Allison Luke and 
her daughter, Sydney Kaye; Paxton and Zachary Johnson and their sons, 
Luke and Myles Slate; John and Deidre Roberts and their children, Eli 
Roberts and Ginny Lynn and John Dement; Brandon and Micah Roberts and 
their children, Dacey, Brandille and Kelby; and close special friends, 
Jelene Ratcliff, Jason Ratcliffe, Julie Ratcliffe, Karen and Darrell 
Beard, Silvia and Jimmy Ray Carlisle and Brenda Loper.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Leatrice Reynolds Bishop; and 
her father, Raymond C. Bishop.
Pallbearers were Leroy Luke, Jason Ratcliffe, Jonathan Roberts, Luke 
Chandler, Mike Jones, Jason Loper, Timmy Roney and Mike Shoemake. 
Honorary pallbearers were Victor Lee, Delton Perry and Brandon Roberts.

Born in Louisiana on Thursday, June 23, 1955 to Ludwig Adam Schoendorf, 
Sr., and Gladys Marie Johnson Schoendorf, she died on Saturday, Dec. 28, 
2024 at Diversicare of Quitman.
She is survived by her husband, John Robert Buford of Waynesboro; four 
daughters, Lacey Roper of Chunchula, Ala., Lisa Lee and Laura Lee, both 
of Semmes, and Christina Lee of Waynesboro; her brother, Glen Olin White 
of Lafayette, La.; her sister, Ceceila Sellers of Gonzales, La.; and six 
grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ludwig Adam Schoendorf, Sr.; 
her mother, Gladys Marie Schoendorf; three brothers, Danny White, Ludwig 
Adam Schoendorf, Jr. and Donald Wilson, Sr.; and two sisters, Connie 
Schoendorf and Barbara Ruth Schoendorf.
