MATTIE SUE LINDSEY
April 5, 1929-Nov. 21, 2024
Funeral services for Mattie Sue Lindsey, 95, of the Eucutta community in 
Wayne County, will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2024 from the 
Chapel of freeman Funeral Home, with Rev. Danny Bullock, Rev. Bradley 
Smith and Rev. Darrell Land officiating. Visitation will be from 1-2 
p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2024 from the Parlor of Freeman Funeral Home.
Following the funeral service, interment will take place at Zion's Rest 
Cemetery in Eucutta.
Born in Clarke County on April 5, 1929, she was the only daughter of 
John Wesley and Millie Freeman Gordon. A lifelong resident of Clarke and 
Wayne County, she was a teacher, community and church volunteer, devoted 
wife, nurturing and endearing mother, loving granny, everyone's "ole 
girl" and great friend to many.
She graduated from Pachuta High School, Jones County Junior College and 
the University of Southern Mississippi. She taught in the Wayne, Jasper 
and Jones County School Districts. She returned to the University of 
Southern Mississippi, earning a Master's degree in Early Childhood 
Education in 1966. Her career as an educator included instruction in 
home economics, first grade and kindergarten. She also taught at William 
Carey University.
Retired after more than 30 years in education, her dedication as an 
educator is remembered by hundreds of students who learned to read and 
write in her cheerful, creative classrooms. During her career, she 
willingly mentored and influenced many new teachers along their paths to 
become successful educators.
She was a member of Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority, Eastern Star, Alpha Delta 
Pi, Retired Educators Association and Wayne County Forestry Association.
She shared her life and family with her husband, Sam Edward Lindsey, for 
70 years. She was a devoted member of Eucutta Baptist Church, where she 
volunteered and participated in the women's ministry. She loved her time 
with her family and grandchildren, quilting ladies, neighbors and many 
special friends.
She died on Sunday, Nov. 21, 2024 at Wayne General Hospital.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and Dave Dyer 
of Fairhope, Ala., and Sammie Sue and Tommy Hendrix of Eucutta; two 
grandchildren and their respective spouses, Wesley and Stephanie Hendrix 
of Victoria, Texas and Lindsey and Ray Brown of Atlanta, Ga.; a 
great-granddaughter, Vivienne Hendrix and many beloved nieces and 
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sam; her parents and 
her brother, John Gordon of Laurel.

DONNIE C. BREWER
Nov. 9, 1947-Nov. 23, 2024
Funeral services for Donnie C. Brewer, 77, of Waynesboro, were conducted 
on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2024 from the Chapel of Freeman Funeral Home, with 
Rev. Bryan Jordan, Rev. Norman Nowell and Brother Jerry Rowley 
officiating.
Interment followed at Johnson Creek Cemetery in State Line.
Born in Greene County on Sunday, Nov. 9, 1947 to the late James and 
Daisy Brewer, he was a faithful and devoted member of Pine Grove 
Freewill Baptist Church. He worked as an Inmate Supervisor for the Wayne 
County Board of Supervisors.
He will always be remembers as a loving husband, daddy, pawpaw and 
friend. He never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone in 
need. He loved being outdoors any change he got, especially anytime 
there was a hunting or fishing trip mentioned.
He died on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024 at South Central Regional Medical 
Center in Laurel.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Barbara Brewer of 
Waynesboro; his daughter and son-in-law, Tonya and Barry Saul of Laurel; 
his brother and sister-in-law, Phillip and Sue Brewer of State Line; his 
granddaughter, Lindsie Saul of Laurel; his grandson, Jared Saul of 
Laurel; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Daisy Brewer; and a 
brother, Kenneth Brewer.

WALTER BENTON SUMRALL
June 16, 1933-Nov. 20, 2024
A Celebration of Life for Walter Benton Sumrall, 91, of Buckatunna, will 
be conducted at a later date.
Born in Buckatunna on Friday, June 16, 1933 to Thomas Fletcher Sumrall 
and Eula Faith Singley Sumrall, he was a member of First Baptist Church 
of Waynesboro. He retired as a Shift Operator with Scott Paper Company.
He died on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024 at his residence.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Peggy Dobson Sumrall of 
Buckatunna; his daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Glen Young; eight 
grandchildren and their respective spouses, Kathy Pittman, Israel 
Thames, Tezzra Cook, Jeremy Young, Jonathon and Sarah Young, Jared and 
Staci Young, Andy Sumrall and Miranda and Kenneth Hair; and a host of 
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Fletcher Sumrall; his 
mother, Eula Faith Singley Sumrall; his son, Randy Sumrall; his 
daughter, Elaine Taylor; four brothers, Henry Sumrall, Samuel Sumrall, 
Jimmy Sumrall and Rodney Sumrall; and five sisters, Hilda Johnson, 
Theola Busby, Ruby Meyer, Caroline Jones and Helen Sumrall.

THERINA NONNIE "TENA" LOGAN
March 24, 1949-Oct. 9, 2024
A Memorial Service for Therina Nonnie "Tena" Logan, 75, of Shubuta, will 
be announced at a later date.
Born in Clarke County on Thursday, March 24, 1949 to William Henry 
Blackwell and Bertha Mae Blackwell, she was a member of Hephzibah 
Baptist Church. She worked for the Quitman School District as a Bus 
Driver for eight years then worked as a Mail Carrier for the United 
States Postal Service for 34 years before retiring.
She died on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024 at her residence.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Edwin Milton Logan, Jr., of 
Shubuta; four children, 13 grandchildren and numerous 
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, William Henry Blackwell; her 
mother, Bertha Mae Blackwell; her father-in-law, Edwin Milton "Bud" 
Logan; her mother-in-law, Sue Logan; and her sister, Hilda Duell.
