Funeral services for Mattie Sue Lindsey, 95, of the Eucutta community in
Wayne County, will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2024 from the
Chapel of freeman Funeral Home, with Rev. Danny Bullock, Rev. Bradley
Smith and Rev. Darrell Land officiating. Visitation will be from 1-2
p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2024 from the Parlor of Freeman Funeral Home.

Born in Clarke County on April 5, 1929, she was the only daughter of
John Wesley and Millie Freeman Gordon. A lifelong resident of Clarke and
Wayne County, she was a teacher, community and church volunteer, devoted
wife, nurturing and endearing mother, loving granny, everyone's "ole
girl" and great friend to many.

She graduated from Pachuta High School, Jones County Junior College and
the University of Southern Mississippi. She taught in the Wayne, Jasper
and Jones County School Districts. She returned to the University of
Southern Mississippi, earning a Master's degree in Early Childhood
Education in 1966. Her career as an educator included instruction in
home economics, first grade and kindergarten. She also taught at William
Carey University.

Retired after more than 30 years in education, her dedication as an
educator is remembered by hundreds of students who learned to read and
write in her cheerful, creative classrooms. During her career, she
willingly mentored and influenced many new teachers along their paths to
become successful educators.

She was a member of Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority, Eastern Star, Alpha Delta

She shared her life and family with her husband, Sam Edward Lindsey, for
70 years. She was a devoted member of Eucutta Baptist Church, where she
volunteered and participated in the women's ministry. She loved her time
with her family and grandchildren, quilting ladies, neighbors and many
special friends.

She died on Sunday, Nov. 21, 2024 at Wayne General Hospital.

of Fairhope, Ala., and Sammie Sue and Tommy Hendrix of Eucutta; two
grandchildren and their respective spouses, Wesley and Stephanie Hendrix
of Victoria, Texas and Lindsey and Ray Brown of Atlanta, Ga.; a
great-granddaughter, Vivienne Hendrix and many beloved nieces and
nephews.

Blackwell and Bertha Mae Blackwell, she was a member of Hephzibah
Baptist Church. She worked for the Quitman School District as a Bus
Driver for eight years then worked as a Mail Carrier for the United
States Postal Service for 34 years before retiring.
