One man was killed in a wreck Wednesday morning that closed Highway 145
from Russell Drive down to Industrial Park Drive.
According to officials, a log truck struck the bridge as it crossed
Patton Creek around 9 a.m. Wednesday. After striking the bridge, the
truck careened off Highway 145 and struck a large tree.
The crash caused the logs loaded on the truck to shift and land on top
of the cab of the truck.
Crews worked the scene and transferred the logs to another truck before
extrication work could begin.
The name of the driver was not being released as the Wayne County
Coroner was being called to the scene.
Responding to the accident were the Waynesboro Police Department,
Waynesboro Fire Department, Denham Fire Department, Kelley Companies,
Wayne County Sheriff's Department, Wayne General Hospital EMS, MDOT,
Simmons Wrecker and Waynesboro Public Works.
At the time of the posting of this story, it was not known how long Highway
145 would be closed to traffic.
The exact cause of the accident is being investigated.
