DORIS MAE PITTS HUDSON
May 14, 1931-Sept. 11, 2024
Doris Mae Pitts Hudson, 93, of Waynesboro, died on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 
2024 in the comfort of her home, surrounded by love.
Born in Waynesboro on May 14, 1931 to Maudie Martin Pitts and Earlie 
Pitts, she married Norman Hudson in 1973.
She retired from Boeing Aircraft Company in 1993. She moved back home to 
Waynesboro, where she was a beloved daughter, mother, sister, wife, 
grandmother and friend. She was a member of First Baptist Church in 
Waynesboro, where she was also a member of the Seniors Club. She also 
belonged to the Women's Club of Waynesboro and the Quilting Club, 
where they made many beautiful quilts.
She loved to sew, bake, cook and garden.
She is survived by her two daughters, Dianne Chancellor Ralls and Betty 
Chancellor Beasley; her son-in-law, Mike Beasley; five bonus children, 
Shirline Hudson Masiel, Robert Hudson, Ronald Hudson, Richard Hudson and 
Rocky Hudson; 16 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and seven 
great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Milton Hudson; her 
parents, Maudie and Earlie Pitts; her sister, Eva L. Pitts; and her 
brothers, Roland Pitts, Archie Pitts, Bennie Pitts, Jr. Pitts and Robert 
Pitts.
She will be missed by her family, friends and her cat, Tom.

BRUCE DOHERTY
Jan. 2, 1949-Sept. 23, 2024
Graveside services for Bruce Doherty, 75, of Waynesboro, were conducted 
on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2024 from Clear Creek Cemetery in Shubuta, with 
Rev. Chase Bedwell officiating.
Born on Friday, Jan. 21, 1949 in Waynesboro to the late David Marshall 
and Audrey Jordan Doherty, he was a member of Clear Creek Baptist 
Church. He retired as Operator of Doherty Farms.
He loved his family and loved his God. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing 
and growing flowers. He never met a stranger and always had a story to 
tell. He walks in sunshine now.
He died on Monday, Sept. 23, 2024 at Wayne General Hospital.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Faye Doherty; two 
daughters and a son-in-law, Jada D. Doherty and Hayley D. and Michael 
Stewart, all of Waynesboro; a beloved granddaughter and beloved grand 
puppies, Sweetie and Brownie.

ELTON DELON DAVIS
Feb. 7, 1945-Sept. 20, 2024
Funeral services for Elton Delon Davis, 79, of Waynesboro, were 
conducted on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2024 from Coyt Baptist Church, with 
Spencer David officiating.
Interment followed at Coyt Cemetery in Wayne County.
Born on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 1945 to the late Willie Stance and Olazell 
Davis, he retired as a Truck Driver for Mar-Jac Poultry.
He died on Friday, Sept.20, 2024 at his residence.
He is survived by his two sons and a daughter-in-law, Elton Dwayne Davis 
and Spencer and Heather Davis, all of Waynesboro; two daughters and 
sons-in-law, Pam and Mark Lennon of Zebulon, Ga., and Lisa and Joe 
Jones; and eight grandchildren, Dillon Henke, Samuel Henke, Rebecca 
Lennon, Ryan Lennon, Henley Davis, Easton Davis, Sawyer Davis and Logan 
Bryant Davis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Stance and Olazell 
Davis; his daughter, Karen Henke; and his brother, Elliott Davis.

CHARLES EVERITT POWE
Dec. 29, 1942-Sept. 19, 2024
Graveside services for Charles Everitt Powe, 81, were conducted on 
Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024 from the Alexander Powe Family Cemetery in 
Winchester.
Born in Waynesboro on Dec. 29, 1942 to George Shaw Powe and Lillian 
Hazel Everitt Powe, he was raised around grandparents, a sister, aunts, 
uncles and many cousins and friends in the rural Winchester community.
He attended school in Buckatunna and graduated from Wayne County High 
School, where he was class president. He earned Bachelor's and 
Master's degrees in agricultural economics at Mississippi State 
University and a Ph.D. in agricultural economics from the University of 
Florida. While in Florida, he met his wife, the former Sandra Ann 
Claybrook of Reform, Ala. The couple married on May 4, 1974, and they 
celebrated their 50th anniversary this year.
Charles, or "Charlie" as he was known to man, worked in Washington, 
D.C., for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for about three years 
before he returned to Starkville in 1977 to join the Mississippi State 
University faculty in the Department of Agricultural Economics. In 
addition to his years at the university, he pursued other skills and 
interests, working for several years as an electrical and general 
contracting assistant.
He devoted much time to learning about forestry and forest management 
and invested a great deal of his energy into stewarding the family farm 
where he was raised in Winchester. He also managed personal rental 
property in Starkville.
He enjoyed learning and liked to discuss history, science, politics and 
other subjects that piqued his interest. He valued good conversations 
and quality time with his family and friends. In addition to living the 
majority of his life in Starkville, he always kept close ties to his 
native Wayne County, where he had many relatives and lifelong friends.
He died on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024 at his residence.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Powe; his son and daughter-in-law, 
Austin and Julie Inmon Powe of Hernando; his daughters and sons-in-law, 
Alexis and Patrik Nordin of Starkville and Allison and Todd Matthews of 
Starkville; his granddaughter, Sara Matthews; and five grandsons and 
their respective spouses, Samuel and Hannah Matthews, Landon and Jackson 
Powe and Peter and Nicolas Nordin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Emma Jean Powe; and 
his brother-in-law, Dennis McKee.

Jan. 3, 1955-Sept. 8, 2024
Funeral services for Maxine Everett, 69, of Waynesboro, were conducted 
on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024 from Sweet Pilgrim Baptist Church in 
Buckatunna, with Rev. Donald Gandy officiating.
Born on Jan. 3, 1955, she died on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2024 at Wayne General 
Hospital.
She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Richard and Yannick 
Everett, Jason Gandy, Cedric Gandy, Tevin Everett and Jeffery Gandy, all 
of Waynesboro; her daughters and son-in-law, Shronda and Kembrell Young 
of Jackson, Tonya Everett and Shacorey Everett, both of Waynesboro; 21 
grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a special friend, Donna 
Walker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Rosie Gandy; her 
husband, Curtis Everett; her brothers, John Robert Gandy, Hubert Gandy 
and Allen Gandy; a special friend, Joe Mason; and a great-grandchild, 
Destin Young.

EVONE BLAKLEY HENRY
April 18, 1948-Sept. 9, 2024
Funeral services for Evone Blakley Henry, 76, of Waynesboro, were 
conducted on Friday, Sept. 20, 2024 from New Vision Baptist Church, with 
Pastor Ricky Chambers, Sr., officiating.
Interment followed at Serenity Gardens in Waynesboro.
Born on April 18, 1948, she died on Monday, Sept. 9, 2024 at Wayne 
General Hospital.
She is survived by her husband, Deacon R.V. Henry; her sons, Reece Henry 
and Patrick Henry; her daughters, Carolyn and Shonda Henry of Waynesboro 
and Reevone Sajous of Marietta, Ga.; two sisters, Omega Tabbs and Eloise 
Lowe; four sisters-in-law, Mattie Bishop, Earlie Mae Gray, Mae Rhodes 
and Dorothy Henry; her brother-in-law, Robert Henry; and a host of 
grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and 
friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Elmer and Ollie M. 
Blakely; her son, her sisters and her brothers.
