TIMOTHY HARRISON

Nov. 21, 1960-Aug. 8, 2024

A private memorial service for Timothy Harrison, 63, of Waynesboro, will 
be conducted at a later date.

Born on Nov. 21, 1960 to C.W. Harrison and Edith Earl Harrison of Wayne 
County, he died on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2024 at UMMC in Jackson.

He is survived by his sister, Rebecca Earby of Hattiesburg; and his 
constant companion, Cricket.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Frances Gail 
Walters, Willie Earl Rush and Earlyne Prestwood.

BERRY VAN "B.V." NOWELL

Nov. 5, 1932-Aug. 24, 2024

Funeral services for Berry Van "B.V." Nowell, 91, of Waynesboro, 
were conducted on Monday, Aug. 26, 2024 from Corinth Free Will Baptist 
Church, with Rev. Ronald Nowell, Rev. Burl Brewer and Rev. Larry 
Reynolds officiating.

Interment followed at Corinth Free Will Baptist Cemetery in Wayne 
County.

Born in Waynesboro on Saturday, Nov. 5, 1932 to the late Buddie and Lucy 
Pitts Nowell, he proudly served in the United States Army. He was a 
devout member of Corinth Free Will Baptist Church, where he served as an 
Ordained Deacon for 55 years. He retired as a Drilling Superintendent 
with Texaco Oil Company. After retirement, he went back to work with 
Block T Petroleum as a Consultant.

He was a courageous man of faith who devoted his time to helping his 
church, family friends and neighbors. His faith and integrity inspired 
many who knew him to surrender their lives to Christ. Throughout his 
long life, he was known for his incredible work ethic and generosity. 
His heart was as big as his faith, and he lived each day with a spirit 
of compassion and humility.

He found joy tending to his cows, bailing hay, listening to Gospel 
music, cherishing moments with his family and enoying evenings on the 
porch with the love of his life, his wife, Edna. He was celebrated for 
his infectious sense of humor, consistenly finding ways to bring joy and 
laughter to those around him.

B.V.'s legacy of love, faith and hard work will live on in the hearts 
of all who knew him. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit will 
continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to be touched by his 
life. May he rest in peace, secure in the knowledge that he has gone to 
his eternal reward, leaving behind a world made better by his presence.

He died on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his loving 
family.

He is survived 71 years, Edna Earl Sanderson Nowell; two daughters and a 
son-in-law, Debbie Shoemaker and Regina and Paul Hancock, all of 
Waynesboro; two granddaughters and their respective spouses, LaBreeska 
and Sam Atkinson of Sylvester, Ga., and Laken Hancock of Waynesboro; his 
great-grandson, Jakin Atkinson of Sylvester; his brother and 
sister-in-law, Rev. Norman and Azalene Nowell of Waynesboro; two sisters 
and a brother-in-law, Vinnie Mae Brewer of Grand Bay, Ala., and Donna 
and Cecil Dunnam of Waynesboro; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Buddie and Lucy Pitts Nowell; 
his brother, J.W. Nowell; two sisters, Dorothy Hinton and Betty Ruth 
Sharkey; and two sons-in-law, David Boaz and Johnny Shoemaker.

JACKIE MILLS BISHOP

Jan. 21, 1955-Aug. 20, 2024

A memorial service for Jackie Mills Bishop, 69, of Waynesboro, was 
conducted on Monday, Aug. 26, 2024 from Chicora First BaptistCchurch in 
Chicora, with Rev. Mitchell Smith, Rev. David Roberson and Rev. Michael 
Beckwith officiating.

Born in Vincennes, Ind., on Friday, Jan. 21, 1955 to John Bernard Riney 
and Jean Riney, she was a member of Chicora First Baptist Church. She 
earned her Master's of Education degree from William Carey University 
and was a retired Teacher.

She served as a volunteer at Wayne General Hospital as a "Pink Lady" 
and was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She died on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2024 at Providence Hospital in Mobile, 
Ala.

She is survived by her husband, Douglas Bishop of Waynesboero; her son 
and daughter-in-law, John "J.R." and Paige Mills of Buckatunna; her 
daughter and son-in-law, Relda and Sam Freeman of Clara; her son and 
daughter-in-law, Josh and Chelsie Bishop of Waynesboro; her sister, Ila 
Schierenberg of Indianapolis, Ind.; 10 grandchildren, Jalyn Mills, 
Duncan Mills, Solomon Mills, Crystal Cockrell, J.T. Eidson, Hannah 
Freeman, Samuel Freeman, Brantlee Bishop, Mazzlyn Bishop and Delilah 
Bishop; five great-grandchildren and 11 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Riney; her mother, Jean 
Riney; her daughter, Margie West; and two brothers, John Wilson and 
William Wilson.

SGT. RANDY LEON STONE

Aug. 16, 1962-Aug. 20, 2024

Graveside services for Sgt. Randy Leon Stone, 62, of Waynesboro, were 
conducted on Monday, Aug. 26, 2024 from Stone-Blue Cemetery with Rev. 
Marvin Griffin officiating.

Born in Shreveport, La., on Thursday, Aug. 16, 1962 to Lester Leon 
"Bubba" Stone and Joann Allison, eh served for six years in the 
United States Navy and 17 years in the United States Army. He was a 
Veteran of the Cold War, Desert Storm and the Iraq War. He retired as a 
Generator Mechanic in the United States Army.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, sitting around 
grilling and having cook outs. He was an avid fisher, loved being PawPaw 
and making people laugh.

He died on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2024 at his residence.

He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Robin Stone; his mother, Joann 
Allison; three sons, Randall Whitney Stone, Corey Anthony Riggio and 
Marcus Joseph Stone; two daughters and a son-in-law, Courtney Amber and 
Robbee Blue and Clair Marie Stone; two brothers and a sister-in-law, 
Richard and Dana Stone and "To-Jo" Pendarvis; two sisters, Jocye 
Bush and Patricia Stone; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lester Leon "Bubba" Stone.

Graveside services for Sarah Yarber Logan, 88, of the Eucutta community, 
were conducted on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2024 from Zion's Rest Cemetery in 
Eucutta.

She was born in Wayne County on Monday, Sept. 9, 1935 to the late Kerney 
and Ruby Dowling Yarber.

She died on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2024 at her daughter's residence in 
Laurel.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Mackey 
Harrison of Laurel; her son and daughter-in-law, Sonny and Amy Logan of 
Eucutta; her sister, Ella Wayne Shirah of Mobile, Ala.; five 
grandchildren and their respective spouses, Dione and Kevin Hodge, 
Chasity and Scott Waller, Haley Logan, Zach Koontz and Lance and Allison 
Koontz; 10 great-grandchildren and their respective spouses, Gabi Hodge 
and JD Shook, Caedence Hodge, Ethan Knight, Kruiz Logan, Aliyana Logan, 
Mira Mozingo, Vadin Logan, Kaizer Koontz, Kash Koontz and Kase Koontz; 
and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Haskel Logan; her parents, 
Kerney and Ruby Dowling Yarber; three brohers, Jimmy Yarber, Billy 
"Sarge" Yarber and Madison "Pap" Yarber; and two sisters, 
Johnnie Allen and Alice Mae Williams.

Pallbearers were Kevin Hodge, Ethan Knight, Aaron Williams, Brian 
Shirah, Danny Yarber and Jim Thatch. Honorary pallbearers were Zach 
Koontz and David Yarber.

MAXIE HENDERSON BRUCE, JR.

Sept. 17, 1953-Aug. 19, 2024

Funeral services for Maxie Henderson Bruce, Jr., 70, of Waynesboro, were 
conducted on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024 from Bridgeway Church in 
Waynesboro, with Dr. DeJuan Walley and Rev. David Grayson officiating. 

Interment followed at Shubuta Cemetery in Clarke County.

Born in Jackson on Thursday, Sept. 17, 1953 to Maxie Henderson Bruce, 
Sr., and Sara Conerly Bruce, he was raised in Pinola, where he attended 
Pinola High School. He later graduated from Mississippi State University 
in 1975 with a Bachelor's degree in Poultry Science. He moved to 
Waynesboro, where he started his career at Marshall Durbin.

After meeting the love of his life, Charlotte Martiniere, they were wed 
in holy matrimony in 1976. They decided to settle and began a family, 
raising four children. He later retired as a Sales and Service 
Representative with Eaton Corporation.

He died on Monday, Aug. 19, 2024 at Asbury Hospice House in Hattiesburg.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Brandy Bruce of 
Hattiesburg; three daughters and sons-in-law, Stacie Bruce and Will 
Scott of Houston, Brooke Bruce and John Robert Ward of Laurel and 
Brittney Bruce and Matt McAfee of Starkville; and nine grandchildren, 
Carter Scott, Lee Scott, Gracie Bruce, Sophie Bruce, Bayleigh Bruce, 
Keagan Ward, Cole Ward, Reese McAfee and Sally McAfee.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Martiniere Bruce; his 
parents, Maxie Henderson Bruce, Sr., and Sara Conerly Bruce; and his 
sister, Melody Bruce Musgrove.

Pallbearerswere Chris Gandy, Frank Gandy, Brent Freeman, Brent Barry, 
Todd Graham and Trey Chapman. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy 
Dickerson, Ennis King, Larry Gandy, Allen Torrey and Richard Ward.

CLYNE WILLIAM BUXTON

May 29, 1923-Aug. 14, 2024

Funeral services for Clyne William Buxton, 97, were conducted on 
Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024 from Lee University Chapel with Dr. Mark 
Williams and Dr. Larry Pemberton officiating.

Interment followed at Sunset Memorial Garden.

Born on a farm near Chicora on May 29, 1923, he learned early how to 
work and later managed the family farm as a youth. An ordained minister 
of the Church of God, he held a short pastorate in Canada and three in 
Alabama. He also served the Church of God, his denomination, for six 
years as state youth and Christian education direction in Alabama, where 
he issued more teacher-traning certificates than any other state.

After completing a degree in Journalism at Samford University, he served 
for 16 years as Director of Sunday School and Youth Literature at 
Pathway Press, where he was also editor of The Lighted Pathway, a youth 
publication. Later, he was editor of a 64-page quarterly ministerial 
journal for seven years and led the publication to the highest award 
bestowed by the Evangelical Press Association, which represented more 
than 250 religious publications throughout America.

Clyne was widely known as an author, including a book on lesson 
preparation and another for ministers, a volume used for wedding, 
funeral and baby dedications. He was author of nine books; however, he 
is best known for his five books on eschatology, which are used in 
private study, Sunday School, midweek study and Bible institutes. His 
writings have ben translated into German, Hungarian and Korean. He was 
gifted in making difficult Biblical points about the future and 
understandable. He wrote a weekly column for five years in the Cleveland 
(Tenn.) Daily Banner under the heading "The Bible and Current 
Events," which was well received.

He was married to the late Mary Broadus Buxton, who died in 2018. They 
had one child, Clynette Buxton Pemberton, who is in education and 
resides in Knoxville, Tenn., with her husband, Dr. Larry Pemberton.

He died on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Clynette and Larry 
Pemberton; his grandchildren and their respective spouses, Valerie and 
Shawn, Jon and Elisabeth and David; his great-grandchildren, Olivia, 
Gabrille, Jacob, Owen and Ashlynn; his nieces and nephews and their 
respective spouses, Earl Mills, Cecil Mills, James M. Mills, Glen and 
Janis Buxton, Jack Buxton, Judy E. Elmendorf, Rev. Floyd and Ollie 
Mills, Betti M. and Frank Millsaps, Roy and Dessie Mills, Al and Marsha 
Smith, Sara S. and Albert Landrum, Dan and Rose Smith and Syble S. 
Courtney; and a host of relatives and friends.
