Two people were arrested in connection with a Sunday murder on Waller
Ridge Road.
Trey Clark, 31, was transported from the scene to Wayne General Hospital
in a personal vehicle. Wayne County Coroner Phillip Brewer pronounced
Clark dead and ordered an autopsy to be performed. Brewer said Clark
died from a shotgun wound sustained in the incident.
The shooting occurred shortly after 4 a.m. Sunday. The two suspects were
taken into custody later that afternoon.
Zachary Marquis Brunson, 28, of County Road in Shubuta turned himself
into authorities at 6:07 p.m. Sunday. He was chugged with first degree
murder.
At 5:29 p.m., Brunson's wife, Courtney Nicole, 31, was arrested and
charged with accessory before the fact.
According to Wayne County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Geoffery
Clark, the incident stemmed from a fight at a residence in the 900 block
of Waller Ridge Road.
Clark said that two men left the scene of the fight while two remained
at he residence. One of the men then came back and shot Clark.
"Thanks to a vigilant deputy, we were able to arrest the female suspect
as she was fleeing on Waynesboro-Shubuta Road," Clark said. "The male
suspect then tuned himself in about an hour later."
According to reports, the female suspect drove her husband to the area
and was waiting for him to return. She saw that he was being chased by
someone else at the scene and left when the male suspect fled into the
woods.
Both cases are expected to be presented at the next available session of
the Wayne County Grand Jury.
