Born on Nov. 6, 1934, he was the youngest son of Frank Clark and Maude

almost his entire life in Waynesboro. He earned degrees from the

University of Southern Mississippi in 1955 and the University of

Mississippi School of Law in 1958. He served for three years in the

United States Army Reserves after graduating from law school, obtaining

the rank of Captain before being honorably discharged.

After law school, he practiced law in Laurel, where he met and married

Kathryn Hollingshead. A 52-year marriage produced three children ---

John Mark Clark in 1960, Michael Scott Clark in 1962 and Geoffery Miles

Clark in 1964. In 1962, the family settled in Waynesboro.

In 1963, Judge Clark was elected County Attorney for Wayne County. In

1966, he was appointed by Governor Ross Barnett as Chancery Judge for

the newly created 19th Chancery Court District encompassing Wayne County

and Jones County. He served continuously as Chancery Judge until his

retirement from the bench in 1994, after which he resumed private

practice in Waynesboro in addition to serving as Chancellor by

appointment in cases around the State of Mississippi.

He maintained an active law practice until 2022 and, during this time,

he served for several years as Attorney for the Wayne County Board of

Education.

Despite his vast accomplishments as both a lawyer and judge, he was a

humble man who enjoyed playing golf and fishing as well as faithfully

serving the church. He was also a devoted fan and supporter of the

athletic teams at Waynesboro Central High School and, later, Wayne

County High School.

Funeral services for Ryan Andrea Loper, 28, of Waynesboro, were

conducted on Saturday, April 6, 2024 from the Chapel of Freeman Funeral

Home.

Interment followed at Cross Road Cemetery in the Strengthford community.

Born on Monday, Oct. 30, 1995, he was a wonderful father who adored his

babies. He always made sure to hug his family and friends and tell them

that he loved them. He started his very own business as a heavy

machinery diesel mechanic, which was impressive to be so young.

He was rarely seen without a smile and grease under his fingernails.

When he wasn't spending time with his children, he could usually be

found in the woods hunting, tinkering on some machinery or doing

something else outdoors.

Ryan was blessed with many special mentors in his life, but his Uncle

Sooner and Aunt Cissie, along with Brent and Mitzie Palmer, especially

had a hand in helping him to become the kind-hearted man who everyone

loved.

He has been described many times as someone who would give others the

shirt off of his back. He gave in death as he often did in life through

one final act of love. He died a hero through organ donation, which

helps others to live.

He died on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 from the University of Mississippi

Medical Center in Jackson, surrounded by family members who loved him

deeply.

He leaves behind a large family who will miss him immensely, but they

have found comfort in knowing that he knew Jesus Christ as his Lord and

Savior.

He is survived by his parents, Dewey Ray Loper and Ellen Denise Loper;

his wife, Alyssa Blackwell Loper; his children, Kenzington and Kolter

Loper; his siblings and their respective spouses, Cain and Dora Loper,

Kasi Loper Pugh, Boone and Amy Loper and Holly and Timathy Sherman; and

his nieces and nephews and their respective spouses, Dylan and Savana

Pugh, Damon Loper, Payge and Austin Davis, Jake and Jaden Loper, Wyatt

Pugh, Charleigh Claire Loper, Cooper Sherman, Trace Loper and Cali

Loper.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Hance C. and Emma

Merle Loper; and his maternal grandparents, Junior and Nellie French.
