War Eagles rebound with huge win

Wayne County High School rebounded nicely from a season opening loss,
taking a 51-19 win at home Friday night over Greene County.
The win moved the War Eagles to 1-1 on the season heading into a home
showdown against rival West Jones this coming Friday night.
Zay Owens got things rolling for WCHS, scoring on a 5-yard run with 8:38
left in the first quarter. Kyle Clark booted the extra point and it was
7-0.
With 4:28 remaining in the opening period, Jacob Bowles hit Jalen Jones
in stride with a 45-yard touchdown pass to make it 13-0.
The Wildcats got on the board with 1:19 left in the first, using a
35-yard pass to make it a 13-6 contest.
In the second quarter, Omar Boykin, Jr., plunged in from 2 yards out and
the Clark extra point opened up a 20-6 lead with 11:02 remaining in the
half.
At the 7:51 mark of the second quarter, K.J. Walley scored on a 1-yard
run. The Clark extra point made things 27-6 in favor of the home team.
Just for good measure, Clark booted a 27-yard field goal with 1:11
remaining in the half to give the War Eagles a 30-6 advantage at the
intermission.
The Wildcats got the first score of the second half, using a 27-yard
pass play to trim the deficit down to 30-13 with 6:43 left in the third
quarter.
Exactly one minute later, Sandrick Mayfield crossed the goal line after
racing 58 yards for a score. The Clark extra point made it 37-13 with
5:43 left.
Boykin, Jr., would then race 68 yards for a score with 3:24 remaining,
and the Clark extra point made it 44-13.
With 6:42 left in the game, Teadereon Franks scored on a 1-yard run, and
the Clark extra point made it 51-13 and implemented a running clock.
Greene County scored on the final play of the night --- a 7-yard pass
--- to set the final margin.

Jaguars improve to 2-0 in district

COLUMBIA --- Wayne Academy's Jaguars improved to 3-1 on the year and ---
more importantly --- 2-0 in district play with a solid 28-19 road win
Friday night over Columbia Academy.
The Jaguars now get ready for a district game at home against Bowling
Green, La., this Friday night.
Cade McCaa got the first score of the night with 2:51 left in the first
quarter, and the Colton Stringer extra point made it 7-0.
In the second quarter, the Cougars responded with a pair of touchdowns
on a 6-yard run and a 5-yard pass to take a 13-7 lead.
With 1:05 left in the first half, Will McRee hit Davin Lowery with a
pass and the senior turned into a scoring jaunt. The Stringer extra
point gave the Jaguars a 14-13 halftime lead.
WIth 8:41 left in the third quarter, Stringer caught a short pass and
turned it into a 3-yard touchdown, then he kicked the extra point to
open pup a 21-13 advantage.
With 5:23 left in the game, McRee hit D.J. Turnipseed on a 17-yard pass
and the Stringer extra point made it 28-13.
With 52 seconds left in the game, the Cougars returned a fumble 47 yards
for a score. The extra point attempt failed.
