SHIRLEY NELL BYRD BUTLER
June 10, 2023
Graveside services for Shirley Nell Byrd Butler, 78, of Florence, Ala.,
will be at 12 p.m. on Thursday, June 15 from Railroad Cemetery, with
Brother David Gallaher officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30-11:30
a.m. on Thursday, June 15 from Williams Funeral Home of Florence.
Retired from Florence Hospital as a Lab Tech, she was a member of
Waynesboro United Methodist Church.
Nicknamed "Nannie," she was a very special lady --- always beautiful and
put together. She felt her place was in serving others. Things she loved
were weekend visits with the great-grandbabies and grandchildren. She
loved phone conversations, several daily, often to the same people, and
loved cleaning!
We know she's in heaven, dusting, running the vacuum or working in the
yard cutting limbs or weed eating with her scissors. That's what she
loved to do. She was one of a king --- smart, feisty, she fought for
what she believed. There will never be another like her.
She died on Saturday, June 10, 2023.
She is survived by her children, Kim Butler Liles and Jeff Butler; her
brother and sister-in-law, Milton and Teresa Byrd; her sister, Shelia
Glass; her grandchildren, Kylie, Aria, Oakley, Tarik and Bellamy; a
special sister-in-law in Betty Burdine; and a host of wonderful friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall and Tessie Byrd; and
her husband, Larry Butler.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's
Hospital or Shoals Dream Center.
