WILLIE LEE DANIELS

Memorial services for Willie Lee Daniels, 80, of Waynesboro, were
conducted on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 from Calvary Baptist Church. A
private burial was conducted by the family at Waynesboro Cemetery.
Born in Yellow Pine, Ala., on Sunday, Feb. 14, 1943 to the late Herman
W. Odom and Julia Ann Cartwright, she was a member of Calvary Baptist
Church. She retired as Manager at First Family Financial Service.
She died on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Brookwood Villa Personal Care Home
in Waynesboro, surrounded by her loving family.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Julia Michelle and Scott
Walters of Waynesboro; her brother, James W. Odom of Waynesboro; her
sister and brother-in-law, Virginia Odom and Thomas Toney of Batesville;
her grandson, Brady Scott Walters of Waynesboro; her granddaughter,
Breanna S. Walters of Ridgeland; her sister-in-law, Vickie Odom of
Waynesboro; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman W. Odom and Julia Ann
Cartwright; her husband, Mack Daniels; her brother, Homer C. Odom; and
her sister-in-law, Carol Odom.

MAZELL D. WEST
Feb. 16, 1947-May 13, 2023
Funeral services for Mazell D. West, 76, of Waynesboro, were conducted
on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 from Harvest Temple Church, with Rev. Edward
Bean and Rev. W.E. Hutcherson officiating.
Interment followed at White House Cemetery in Waynesboro.
Known to everyone as Mae, she was the sixth of seven children born ot
John D. and Lillie Mae Dennis on Feb. 16, 1947. She was a Homemaker for
most of her life and, upon retirement, she kept her grandchildren and
enjoyed living life with her husband, children and grands. She was a
wife, mother, nana, daughter and sister who everyone loved dearly.
She died peacefully on Saturday, May 13, 2023.
She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Dalton L. West; two
daughters and a son-in-law, Angela West and Ashley and Anthony McGinty;
two grandchildren, Bryston and Briana; two sisters and brothers-in-law,
Willie and Jim Myers and Linda and Don Cochran; her twin brother and his
spouse, Dezell and Margaret Dennis; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Pearlie Busby
Brown and Johnnie Mae Douglas; and her brother, L.D. Dennis.
Pallbearers were Keith Dennis, Kevin Dennis, Ron Cochran, Jeff Williams,
Trent Williams and Elvis Dearman. Honorary pallbearers were Chris
Cherry, Josh Wood, Doug Wood and Shawn Dearman.

GLADYS "BETTY" JONES
July 2, 1932-May 11, 2023
Funeral services for Gladys "Betty" Jones, 90, of Vinegar Bend,
Ala., were conducted on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 from Burbank Pentecostal
Church in Vinegar Bend, with Rev. James Bice and Brother Jacob Jones
officiating.
Interment followed at Burbank Pentecostal Cemetery in Vinegar Bend.
Born in Salisbury, Md., on Saturday, July 2, 1932 to the late Garland
Lee Wright and Viola Wright, she retired from the Alabama Forestry
Commission as a Fire Watcher.
She died on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at her residence, surrounded by her
loving family.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Sara Jones of
Vinegar Bend; three daughters, Leila Ann Riles of New Port, Ala., Linda
Strickland of Waynesboro and Dianna Walker of Grand Bay, Ala.; and a
host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and
great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Jones; her father,
Garland Lee Wright; her mother, Viola Wright; her son, Aubrey Garland
Jones, Sr.; and her brother, William Wright.

JAMES E. "JIM" WAITES
March 24, 1948-May 9, 2023
Funeral services for James E. "Jim" Waites, 75, of Waynesboro, were
conducted on Friday, May 12, 2023 from the Chapel of Freeman Funeral
Home, with Rev. Chris Cooper officiating.
Interment followed at West Family Cemetery in Waynesboro.
Born in Waynesboro on Wednesday, March 24, 1948 to James William Waites
and Zera Lola Waites, he retired as a Truck Driver.
He died on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at the State Veterans Home in Collins.
He is survived by his wife, Sheba Waites of Waynesboro; his daughter and
son-in-law, Kim and Eric Black of Ellisville; his brother, James R.
"Buster" Waites of Waynesboro; his sister and brother-in-law, Edna
Jane and Moose Buckley of Waynesboro; a granddaughter and her husband,
Erica and Ronnie Pilgrim of Ellisville; and a great-grandson, Drew
Pilgrim.
He was preceded in death by his father, James William Waites; and his
mother, Zera Lola Waites.
Pallbearers were Chris Cochran, Lamar Beasley, Lonnie Bunch, Kenneth
Beasley, Kenneth McCurley and Brent Graham.

RAY CHARLES COOLEY
March 20, 1945-May 2, 2023
Funeral services for Ray Charles Cooley, 78, also known as "Big Daddy
Ray," were conducted on Friday, May 12, 2023 from Altair Baptist
Church.
Interment followed at Altair Baptist Church Cemetery.
Born on March 20, 1945 to the late C.L. Cooley and Mary Lee Satcher
Cooley, he accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Lightsey
Church of God in Christ.
He attended Shirley Orange School and Riverview High School. After high
school, he went to work at Wayne Poultry in Laurel and Monticello
Hardwood in Bay Springs.
He died on May 2, 2023 at Covington County Hospital in Collins.
He is survived by two daughters, Shelia Cooley of Troy, Ohio and Shannon
Clark of Laurel; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Darrie and Shenease
Cooley of Englewood, Ohio, and Frankie Lee Milsap of Heidelberg; four
sisters and two brothers-in-law, Zella and Tuson Taylor, Lutricia Magee
and Laura Pope, all of Collins, and Rebecca and Eric McDougal of Ocean
Springs, a special niece, Temerial Waters-White; a special cousin,
Roberta Lacey; nine grandchildren, four aunts, an uncle and a host of
niecews, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Cooley; a son, Mark Milsap;
and two brothers, Johnny Ray Cooley and Albert Ray Cooley.

KAYE GATLIN TUTTLE
Sept. 27, 1933-May 10, 2023
Funeral services for Kaye Gatlin Tuttle, 89, of Waynesboro, were
conducted on Saturday, May 13, 2023 from the Chapel of Freeman Funeral
Home, with Dr. Steve Smith officiating.
Interment followed at Serenity Gardens Cemetery.
Born in Sandersville on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 1933 to M.S. Gatlin and
Lotis Gatlin, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Waynesboro.
She retired as a Secretary with M.S. Gatlin Building Supply.
She died on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at Brookwood Villa Personal Care
Home in Waynesboro.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Daphne Tuttle and Dave
White of Mary Esther, Fla., and Cynthia T. and Johnny Burnett of
Navarre, Fla.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Martha and Luther
Walley of Waynesboro and Linda Clark of Waynesboro; three grandchildren
and their respective spouses, Melissa Marsa' and Jeff Aston of Auburn,
Ala., Gary Cone of Birmingham, Ala., and Brittny and Aaron Jones of
Birmingham; four great-grandchildren, Taylor Janousek, Jackson Janousek,
Connor Jones and Daphne Alice Jones; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny H. Tuttle; her father,
M.S. Gatlin; her mother, Lotis Gatlin; two brothers, Talmadge Gatlin and
Shelby Gatlin; and two sisters, Dorothy Miller and Carolyn Palmer.

JAMES THOMAS "JIMMY" KITTRELL
July 20, 1954-May 7, 2023
Funeral services for James Thomas "Jimmy" Kittrell, 68, of State
Line, were conducted on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 from the Chapel of
Freeman Funeral Home, with Dr. Terry Williams, Brandon Bollinger and
Preston Raines officiating.
Interment followed at County Line Cemetery in State Line.
Born in State Line on Tuesday, July 20, 1954 to Louis Nathaniel
Kittrell, Sr., and Doris Kittrell Douglas, he was retired as a
Consultant in the oil field industry. He was a graduate of Buckatunna
High School and a lifelong resident of State Line.
On a beautiful day, Oct. 27, 1980, he married the love of his life, his
best friend and confidant, June Kittrell. Their love grew stronger as
they welcomed two beautiful girls into the world --- Jaime and Jennifer.
No one could deny that these girls would have Jimmy's heart. The girls
blessed him with two grandsons --- Jaxson and Fin --- share his passion
of raising cattle, farming, hunting, fishing and, of course, ball games.
Many fathers, especially those with only daughters, long for a son. They
hope the men their girls marry will want to spend time with them and
develop a friendship. Jimmy was blessed with his sons-in-law, Darren and
Casey. With Casey came two more grandsons --- Chase and Jarret --- that
Jimmy was so thankful that Jaxson had two brothers to help watch over
him. Jimmy also was honored to have a son he never had, Shawn, which
also blessed him again with another daughter, Jeanene, and three boys,
Cade Cole, Blake and Michaela.
He died on Sunday, May 7, 2023 at Wayne General Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, June Kittrell of State Line; two daughters
and sons-in-law, Jaime Kittrell and Darren Welch of Hattiesburg and
Jennifer Kittrell and Casey Goff of Wade; a brother, David Kittrell;
four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Sue and Waynis Henderson of
Fruitdale, Ala., Sissy and Fred Carr of Buckatunna, Alice Lott of Oak
Grove and Cynthia Sparks of Petal; a sister-in-law, Pauline Kittrell of
State Line; two brothers-in-law and their respective spouses, Benny and
Judy West of Waynesboro and Gary and Theresa West of Greensboro, N.C.;
and four grandchildren, Jaxson Kittrell, Finley Welch, Chase Goff and
Jarrett Goff.
He was preceded in death by his father, Louis Nathaniel Kittrell, Sr.;
his mother, Doris Kittrell Douglas; and three brothers, L.N. Kittrell,
Jr., Dewey Kittrell and Charles Kittrell.

RICHARD ANDERSON "FAT BABY" MCLAIN
July 7, 1969-May 7, 2023
Graveside services for Richard Anderson "Fat Baby" McLain, 53, of
Waynesboro, were conducted on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 from Boyles Chapel
Cemetery, with Rev. Aaron Cooley and Rev. Curtis Pitts officiating.
Born in Waynesboro on Monday, July 7, 1969 to Dion and Lois McLain, he
was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church. He worked as a Truck Driver
with G B Boots Smith.
"Fat Baby" will always be remembered by his family for his love as a
truck driver and wonderful provider. He had a great love for his
grandchildren, with whom he was known as "Poppa" and "Pop Pop."
He died on Sunday, May 7, 2023 at Wayne General Hospital.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Christa Dawn McLain of
Waynesboro; his mother, Lois Waller McLain of Waynesboro; his son,
Tucker Anderson McLain of Waynesboro; his daughter, Maygen McLain of
Waynesboro; his daughter-in-love, Katelyn McLain of Waynesboro; his
brother, Shad McLain of Waynesboro; and six grandchildren, Kaydence
Andrews, Kyndal Andrews, Sayge McLain, Blayke Pitts, Landri McLain and
Ellis McLain.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dion McLain; and his
grandparents, John and Myranda (Nicholson) Waller and Ellis and Clyde
(Overstreet) McLain.
