JAMES ALLEN "YOGI" MCCANN
Aug. 13, 1941-Jan. 27, 2023
Graveside services for James Allen "Yogi" McCann, 81, of Waynesboro,
were conducted on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2023 from Bethlehem Cemetery in
Shubuta, with Rev. Terry Jones officiating.
Born on Aug. 13, 1941, he was a retired Foreman with Kelley Brothers
Construction and the Owner of Yogi's Party House.
He died on Friday, Jan. 27, 2023 at Forrest General Hospital in
Hattiesburg.
He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, James Kelvin and
Bessie McCann of Waynesboro and Gary Ladale McCann of Waynesboro; three
daughters and a son-in-law, Lakita and Maurice Shanks of Shubuta,
Glendean "Neice" McCann of Waynesboro and Sherry Spann of San Diego,
Calif.; five brothers and three sisters-in-law, Louis and Dessie Nobles
of Shubuta, James "Jimmy" and Lucille McCann of Gulfport, David Earl
and Mildred Rivers of Waynesboro, Frankie McCann of Waynesboro and
Willie McCall of Shubuta; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary and
Thomas Woodard of Buffalo, N.Y., and Carolyn Terrell of Repton, Ala.; 17
grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, five sisters and five
brothers.

MATTIE VERA POWE
April 18, 1946-January 24, 2023
Funeral services for Mattie Vera Powe, 76, of Waynesboro, were conducted
on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023 from St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, with
Rev. Donald Miller officiating.
Interment followed at Serenity Gardens.
Born on April 18, 1946, she was a former employee of Wells-Lamont and
was a member of Circle #3, the Usher Board and Sunday School at St. Luke
Missionary Baptist Church.
She died on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2023 at her residence.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Tyrone Kinard Powe
and Shelton Ray and Roxie Powe; two daughters and a son-in-law, Lisa
Darlene Powe-Wright and Cynthia and Richard Benson; a sister, Woundlin
and the late James Louise Colbert; seven grandchildren, two
great-grandchildren, a niece, a nephew, two brothers-in-law and a
sister-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

WILLIE FRED HOWELL
June 21, 1963-Jan. 17, 2023
Funeral services for Willie Fred Howell, 59, of Buckatunna, were
conducted on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023 from Sunlight Missionary Baptist
Church, with Rev. Cecil Jackson officiating.
Interment followed at the church cemetery.
Born on June 21, 1963, he was an employee with Scotch Plywood and a
Deacon at Sunlight Missionary Baptist church.
He died on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2023 at Mobile Infirmary in Mobile, Ala.
He is survived by his wife, Manaletta Ann "Jimmie" Howell; two sons,
Jarmaine and Willie Latrell Howell; five brothers and three
sisters-in-law, John Bobby West and Freddie Roy Howell, both of Miami,
Fla., Tony and Patricia West of Mobile, Ala., Alfred and Temecia West
and Joe Lee and Katina Howell, all of Waynesboro; eight sisters and five
brothers-in-law, Rosetta and Louis Smith of North Carolina, Ellar and
Eddie Hodge, Beatrice Dozier, Laverne and Staheli Everett, Sharon Howell
and Elizabeth J. Howell, all of Waynesboro, Letha and Mario Williams and
Leatha Marie and Mitchell Watson of Mobile, Ala.; and a granddaughter,
Loyalty Jershell Howell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
