Supervisors to close courthouse, services Tuesday; Governor declares State of Emergency

January 19, 2025

The Wayne County Board of Supervisors has announced the closure of the
county courthouse and county offices on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, due
to the forecasted winter storm, which is predicted to drop one to three
inches of snow locally with temperature to fall below freezing and
single digit wind chill values. Residents are urged to stay off area
roads and highways on Tuesday as wintry conditions will making driving
hazardous and potentially life threatening.
Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves has declared a STATE OF EMERGENCY is in
place statewide due to threats impacting public health, safety and
welfare as a result of this week's bitter cold temperatures and chance
for wintery precipitation.
A decision on the status of county offices for Wednesday, January 22,
2025, will be made on Tuesday by supervisors with a formal announcement
to follow based on weather conditions at the time.
The courthouse will already be closed on Monday for the observances of
the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., national holiday and the state's
observance of Robert E. Lee Day.
