Investigators are continuing to look into a shooting that left one man
dead Thursday afternoon.
According to Wayne County Sheriff Jerry "Juice" Mosley, deputies were
called to a residence at 291 Sally Gray Road shortly after 3 p.m.
Thursday. Once at the scene, they discovered the body of Cody Demarcus
Whitfield, 35, laying under a carport in the driveway of the residence.
According to Deputy Coroner Blake Kelly, the body is being sent to the
Medical Examiners office in Gulfport to have an autopsy conducted.
Mosley said the victim apparently died of multiple gunshot wounds. He
was pronounced dead at the scene by Kelly at 3:27 p.m. Thursday.
Mosley said according to reports, neighbors heard shots being fired
Wednesday night, but the exact time of those shots is unknown as reports
from neighbors are varying on the time. Mosley added that a mail carrier
discovered the body Thursday afternoon and immediately called E-911.
Evidence was recovered at the scene, and the case is an ongoing
investigation.
Anyone with information is asked to call 601-735-3801 and ask for Mosley
or Investigators Lillina Poole or Brian Everett.
