War Eagles top Panthers for first win

The War Eagles of Wayne County High School scored in bunches in the second half to take control of things en route to a 45-28 win over Morton at home Friday night.
The victory moves the War Eagles to 1-1 on the year heading into next week's road game against Greene County.
Both teams scored 14 points each in the first quarter and added touchdowns in the second quarter to end up deadlocked at 21-all at the intermission. The War Eagles scored 10 points in the third quarter, then scored twice in the fourth period before the Panthers added a cosmetic touchdown with less than three minutes left in the contest.

Jaguars run away from Amite to stay undefeated

LIBERTY — Wayne Academy scored the final 24 points of the game — including all 17 in the second half — to beat Amite School Center, 41-21, and improve to 3-0 on the year Friday night.
The victory also moved the Jaguars to 1-0 in District 3-4A action heading into next week's home district game against Columbia Academy.
Things were close throughout the first half. W.A. took a 17-14 lead by the end of the first quarter and needed a touchdown pass with 3:28 left in the half to take a lead at the intermission.
A field goal in the third quarter and a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter iced the game for the Jaguars.
